What Active Ingredients are in Birth Control Pills?

There are many birth control pill options available in the market. The birth control pill constitutes two active ingredients which includes the synthetic version of the progesterone and estrogen. Based on the requirements of various women’s these birth control pills are made. As some of the women might need a type of hormone more compared to others, similarly some might be sensitive to some hormones. The various mixtures of the constituents are used to manufacture a specific birth control pill for an individual. The birth control pill can contain only the progesterone or estrogen or can constitute both.

Using the wet granulation method the ingredients are mixed and converted into a birth control pill. The blend would vary from one manufacturer to another. The synthetic form progesterone is known as progestin. The progestin pills are generally recommended for nursing mothers to avert pregnancy. The progestin in addition to avoiding the pregnancy it also stops the menstrual cycle. When the progestin level in a woman is high the mucus in the cervix become thick disallowing the sperm to fertilize the egg thereby prevents pregnancy. If the estrogen levels reach high in women’s body the egg is released and it travels into the uterus via the fallopian tubes which can be easily fertilized. If the estrogen level is controlled the pregnancy can be prevented which is done by the estrogen birth control pill.
