What Types Of Birth Control Pills Are There?

A birth control pill can be of different kinds. They are classified according to their content. These pills are categorized in the following way: 

1. Dose is the one way by which you can classify the birth control pills. Earlier birth control pills which are not available nowadays contain a 50 mcg of estrogen which is very high. Nowadays, contraceptive pills contain 35mcg estrogen. These pills are called low-dose contraceptives. On the other hand, the ultra low-dose contraceptives contain 20mcg estrogen. 

2. They can be classified on the basis of hormone content. Combined oral contraceptive contains a hormone called as estrogen and progestin which are most effectively used in birth control pills. These types of contraceptives are not effective enough.  

3. Sometimes these pills are monophasic which means that there is only one phase. Some birth control pills have two different phases of hormones which are termed as biphasic. Some are triphasic which means they contain three different phases of hormones.   

4. Extended-cycle pills are the pills that reduce the menstrual period each year. Continuous-cycle pills entirely remove the menstrual periods that are scheduled. Both these pills provide fewer menstrual periods however bleeding is common.
