How is the Level of Progesterone in the Body Tested?

The level of progesterone is of utmost importance for the survival of the fetus. This hormone prevents the uterus from contracting and triggers the growth of blood vessels for the nourishment of your growing baby. The level of progesterone can be detected with the help of progesterone test.

This test is particularly used for examining the effectiveness of the medicines rich in progesterone meant for the treatment of infertility. Essentially, when the health care provider suggests a progesterone test, the woman should immediately stop the consumption of all the medicines, especially birth control medicines, for a period of 4 weeks at least. Apart from the laboratory test, you can self-determine the level of progesterone in your blood. This can be done by first analyzing your ovulation date. An ovulation predictor kit is an essential aid for the same which efficiently calculates the presence of luteinizing hormone that triggers ovulation. Or, you can also use a basal temperature thermometer to read your body temperature at the hit of the day.

On the ovulation day, your body will measure a higher temperature which persists for several following days. Four-five days post ovulation, you must get your progesterone level checked by your doctor, as this is the right time when this hormone reaches its peak level.
