Can birth control pills cause weight loss?

If you are thinking that the reason for your weight loss is the birth control pill then it is a myth. Most studies have shown that birth control pills cause weight gain rather than weight loss.

The reason for weight gain in contraceptive pills is estrogen. It is a general misconception that contraceptive pills result in weight loss although some women claim to have loss in weight after taking the pills. Irregular diet or heavy smoking habits could be the reason for weight loss rather than blaming the birth control pills. Many young women smokers taking birth control pills blame these pills for their loss in weight. But it’s not the case as there could be some other reasons for their low weight. Irregular diets and heavy smoking habits are the general cause for weight loss among women taking birth control pills. Smoking regularly simply stops your hunger which in turn affects your weight.

The main objective of taking birth control pills is to avoid pregnancy rather than gaining or losing weight. Weight loss can have some healthy and important advantages, but there are healthy and unhealthy ways to do so. It is high time that you realize your flaws and maintain a proper diet.
