Are there certain Ages Women Should be to wear a Birth Control Patch?

Birth control patch is similar to a band aid and is applied on the surface of the skin. The skin absorbs the hormones produced by the patch thus preventing pregnancy. But the patch does not provide protection against sexually transmitted diseases. The patch is made up of two kinds of hormones, progestin and estrogen which the skin soaks up and passes on to the bloodstream.

These hormones help in preventing pregnancy by blocking ovulation. The birth control patch has proven to be 99% successful in preventing pregnancy. Usually these patches do not have any side effect and are effective, safe, and convenient for women of all age group. Moreover the birth control patches also help in regulating periods and reduces excessive bleeding during periods. These also lower the risk of endometriosis, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, benign breast disease, endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer. The birth control patches work on the basis of 28 day or 4 week cycle which is same as the birth control pill.

The patch needs to be applied carefully on the individual’s buttocks or upper torso or abdomen. If the patch partially or completely comes off within 24 hours, a new patch needs to be applied but if it’s more than 24 hours than one need to take contraceptive pills to prevent pregnancy.
