Essure is a permanent form of birth control. The procedure is done without cutting into the body, unlike any other prior forms of sterilization. It is a non invasive procedure. As with prior forms, it is irreversible so a woman must make sure that this is the right form of birth control for her. The procedure takes only 13 minutes to perform. Small flexible micro-inserts are inserted into the fallopian tubes through the body’s natural pathways of the vagina, cervix, uterus and then into the fallopian tubes.
Essure unlike other current forms of birth control contain no hormones and will not interfere with a woman’s natural menstrual cycle. Periods will continue in their natural current state.
A woman may resume natural activates the very next day. Caution is necessary following the procedure for the first three months after the micro-inserts are placed. Additional birth control methods are necessary to give the body time to work with the micro-inserts to prevent pregnancy. It becomes a natural barrier against sperm reaching the egg.
The Essure Confirmation test will be performed by the physician three months after the procedure to confirm that the fallopian tubes are blocked. A woman’s body tissue grows into the Essure micro-insert effectively blocking the fallopian tubes. Once this is confirmed a woman may rely on Essure as a permanent birth control.
