Medical studies have found Lybrel’s interaction with 430 drugs. Out of it, 10 drugs show major interaction while 282 and 138 drugs show moderate and minor reaction. Drugs showing major interaction with Lybrel are acitretin, amprenavir, bexarotene, bosentan, dantrolene, etretinate, fosamprenavir, griseofulvin, hemin, and tizanidine. Nausea and vomiting drug Aprepitant shows negative reaction with Lybrel. There are several Barbiturates who show a negative reaction towards this birth control drug. They are Amobarbital, Butalbital, Pentobarbital, Phenobarbital, Primidone and Secobarbital. Seizure medications having negative impact on Lybrel are Carbamazepine, Felbamate, Lamotrigine, Oxcarbazepine, Phenytoin and Topiramate.
Certain Protease inhibitors have also adverse impact on the functioning of this birth control pill. They are Amprenavir, Ritonavir, Atazanavir, Fosamprenavir, Indinavir and Nelfinavir. Certain antibiotics can cause accidental pregnancy even if you are taking Lybrel. Lybrel has negative interaction with herbal supplements too. Sexual hormones used in Lybrel as ingredients are capable of increasing selegiline level in blood. It might have severe side effects.
The most common example of it is St. Johns wort. Hence, Lybrel is sold on prescriptions only. Before using this birth control pill, you are advised to consult your doctor and tell him/her regarding all the medicines you are taking now. You should go for Lybrel with proper doctor consultation only.
