Estrogen and progestin are female hormones which help to reduce the formation of acne thus helping teenagers in maintaining a clearer skin. Thirdly these pills help to minimize menstrual cramps. Fourthly they help to prevent anemia by reducing the blood flow during menstruation. Fifthly they also minimize the chances of getting affected by ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer. The combination pills also prevent ovulation which causes functional ovarian cysts. Sixthly they protect the fallopian tube against infection known as PID-Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

Lastly they provide protection against ectopic or tubal pregnancies which occurs outside the uterus. Beside these benefits the combined contraceptive pills have certain side effects like they tend to increase the risk of blood clots in the legs. Sometimes they cause migraine headaches with neurological symptoms or aura. Neurological symptoms include loss of speech or numbness.
