Is There a Risk of Stroke Using Birth Control Pills?

Yes, there is a risk of stroke with the use of birth control pills. Not only can it lead to a stroke but many other heart related problems which can ultimately pile up to cause a stroke. These diseases are high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol levels and so on. But it also depends on various factors and if all the factors concentrate at the same time, the risk intensifies. Some of the factors are as follows:

    • The frequency of the consumption of the birth control pills will decide whether the risks level will lead to something fatal or not. If you consume pills occasionally, it really does not cause significant cardio-vascular ailments. But, if you have been consuming regularly, you can develop many such problems. If the consumption frequency is under check, you need not worry.
    • The age factor also plays a critical role. Women under 35 are not as prone. Women above 35 are more prone to stroke when they consume birth control pills.
    • One critical factor is the lifestyle lived by the women. Heavy smoking with birth control pills is a deadly combination and can lead to stroke eventually. If you have been smoking regularly and consuming birth control pills regularly, your chances of a stroke increase drastically.
