What is a Viginal Ring?

A vaginal ring can provide protection by contraception and it is a ring that is very thin, flexible and transparent. The ring must be inserted in the vagina and it must stay there for three weeks. During the time the ring is in the vagina estrogen and progestin is released in the body. Once it is released into the hormones it can thickens up the cervical mucus and stopping the ovulation. It makes a barrier for the sperm and prevents it from fertilizing eggs.

The ring is just as effective as using any of the birth control pills. Studies show that is around 92-99.7 percent effect and can provide around one month of protection when it is in the vagina for three weeks. Sexually transmitted infections can still occur with the ring because the ring does not protect them against those infections including the HIV virus.
